What it does
Compares an MBA career path with staying in your current job over a chosen number of years. It shows the NPV of the difference in cash flows at your discount rate, the IRR, the payback period and the total programme cost (net tuition, living costs and loan interest). It also projects the retirement savings on each path and the monthly income they would support at a chosen withdrawal rate.
Six charts cover cumulative discounted cash flow, portfolio growth, annual cash flow, the income breakdown, loan repayment and salary.
Inputs
Tuition, duration, currency, salaries and growth rates, scholarship, living costs, loan amount, rate and term, signing bonus, discount and tax rates, age, retirement age, spending, savings rate, investment return and withdrawal rate. Presets cover nine schools (Saïd, LBS, Judge, Warwick, INSEAD, Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, HEC Paris) and four scenarios (Base, Bull, Bear, No lift).
Limitations
An illustrative model, not financial advice. Preset tuition figures are approximate and go out of date. It uses one effective tax rate throughout. Your inputs aren't saved or sent anywhere.
